Responsibility or Help ?

Life, in it's daily momentum, often becomes a series of mechanical actions or 'operational work' that typically occupies the day. This is not a gender specific issue but more a age related outcome.
 
As a child, we don't care about anything. We are oblivious of activities around and just focus on what we want. As we grow up, we are more aware, and tend to take responsibility. Maybe convention associates taking up responsibilities with growing up, and I guess that's how the change subconsciously happens.
 
The only gender based change (not applicable to 100% cases but definitely a wide majority) is that a lot of the operational work like groceries, laundry, keeping the house clean, watering the plants etc land in the hands of the female folk, and the more 'serious' things like providing financial stability etc get mapped to men. 
 
I am yet to figure out the reason for this de-facto mapping. I am not sure if these responsibilities landed with the respective genders have a hormonal predisposition to be good at it, or whether they have become good at it because the respective genders have been doing it for ages so they have evolved with these skills getting honed.
 
It is tough to say which of these tasks are more onerous and which are more honourable. Fact of the  matter remains that they are all essential for the smooth functioning of a household.
 
So irrespective of the task, lets all aspire to contribute to these activities, and not just 'help' the other in completing the same.

The Day

What is the significance of Mother's Day...or Father's Day or Valentine's Day. I am not questioning the importance of these people in our lives… but do we require a day to express our love/gratitude towards them. The concept was okay, but the way these days have now been publicised, i feel they've all lost their meaning and initial purpose.Most of these days were celebrated so that unexpressed feelings could be expressed. But now, by the looks of it, it seems that these "days" seems to have lost their glory. In nowadays world, not wishing your parent on Parents day is a gross mistake...not having a valentine is a sin! I might sound cynical…and probably I am…but I feel these days have been hyped too much , leading to absolute loss of meaning and purpose !

Life Death and the ones left in between

How do you tell a 9 year old that her father is no more.... As adults, most of us grapple with the thought and logic (if any) behind a dear one leaving us... and I was suddenly left wondering what to say to this 9 year old !!! For the first time in a long time, I was left speechless, not because I didn't want to say anything, but simply because I didn't know what to say.. Does it make sense if I tell you that all of a sudden, I became the child with a rubbery tongue, and the 9 year old had turned into the adult, trying to respond sensibly and sensitively. I was stumped by the questions thrown at me.  I felt so insufficient in my responses, but the child took even that in her stride. The strength of character in facing not just the reality but also fighting each dilemma in her own sweet way left me in deep thought for some time to come.
