My Mother

Dear Mom,

I know that you wish the best for me... and you want everything to be perfect....
You keep taking care of me, whether I tell you or I don't...
I understand that you want to protect me from all evil, and want the very best for me always.....

But the only way I'll learn is if I make my mistakes....
What may not seem perfect to you, maybe okay for me.... and that's how I start to define my own perfect :)

So please bear with me, and my impertinence, when at times, I act like I know what I'm doing....
I may not always do what you want me to, but what you say always stays with me....

So cheer up... because there is only one you....

Love you !!

PS: If these are sentiments echoed by others and not just me, I guess its a "Mom"thing :) :D

I believe in You

I may not believe in what you believe...
But i believe in you...
And to me, that is more important that having to believe in your belief...

Zindagi

Read this recently... struck a chord...

मिली थी ज़िन्दगी किसी के काम आने के लिए ..
पर वक़्त बीत रहा है कागज़ के टुकड़े कमाने के लिए !!!

That thought....

What happens when you think that it is all okay...
But somewhere, somehow you don't feel it...
That there is something brewing in your head, telling you about it...
But you just ignore the signs..

We just stop, hoping the moment will pass by...
But then realize that it wasn't just a moment !

Gandhi

Gandhi is one of the most critically acclaimed figures of India... I say critically acclaimed because there are almost as many critiques to his ideology as there are followers....

So when he opens the window to his mind and explains his thought process, one can only read with curiosity and intent.
I won't say I am a fan or a blind follower of all that this man did... But I can safely admit that I admire some of the things he achieved...

And as much as we might criticize him for being over - cordial with Britishers in the initial years, to the final agreement (or should it be called disagreement) over the partition of India, one can't but admire his will power and stubbornness, to achieve what he had set out to do.

But the singular thing I'd give most credit to Gandhi ji (or rather The Gandhi) is that he managed to bring the nation together, in a way nobody else could manage, and by doing, what most would have labelled as cowardly action.... Satyagraha.

In today's world, where we keep looking for incorruptible role models (literally !), here is a man who finally achieved what he started out to do !

You must be the change you wish to see in the world.
~ Mahatma Gandhi

Words

It is amazing how we have an urge to say things... followed by the satisfaction of finally having said it... followed, more often, by the feeling of regret that one could have avoided saying it in the first place...
Words are very tricky... to say something is as risky as not saying it... since once said, it just can't be taken back.... maybe swallowing words in your head is a better option !

Happiness

All of us have different milestones & benchmarks in life...

Some want to climb the Everest, some wish to start work of their own... but what if your only wish is to be happy... and that is all you aspire for... does it mean that one has settled for less... that they are less ambitious... or is it simply and endless ladder, since one is never happy.. and we always want better...

Give and Get

I am born.... I will die... This is the only reality....
Whatever I give or get in between, is likely to get rotated/recycled amongst people I know....

Do I "value" everything I get... No... But do I treasure it all... Yes... Atleast I try to...
As a result, I accept whatever I get, whomsoever it might be, in my circle of life, who might be giving it to me.... and the same goes to what I give... I don't think twice...

Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength,
While loving someone deeply gives you courage.

Guilt

The feeling that seems to be hounding my life the most is guilt...
The guilt of not doing something I should have... the guilt of not spending time with friends, parents.... oneself...
I guess the source of all happiness is to be free of guilt... No guilt... no nagging thought at the back of my mind... calm and peace....
But more often than not, guilt is a reflection of our own conscience...  which sometimes we tend to ignore for too long...

It is the confession, not the priest, that gives us absolution.
~ Oscar Wilde

Quotas

India is a huge country, with varying tastes, traditions and beliefs. From the start, we interact with multiple thoughts and ideas be it faith, festivals or biases.

But when these differences turn out to be beneficial for some, and not so for others... when these differences get documented in the constitution as quotas, financials aids, that's the start of the problem.

Some might say that these quotas are justified....
If I am from a Brahmin family, where the last many generations are educated (even if it was the Vedas earlier, and English education now), the odds that I would get a fair education as against someone whose last few generations have been fighting for survival.... True...
But there is no end to this... with all the differences we have as a society, we will alsways be able to identify some "difference" which will benefit us....

It is important that the government, instead of focusing on such quotas, should try and provide facilities for all.. Providing extra facilities to those having economic difficulties is a better basis for the government to show the bias than castes...

Its actually a vicious circle... as long as the voter keep voting for a candidate because his propaganda involved betterment of a sect, the more a parliament is motivated to make such moves....

So the next time you vote, give a thought to the real reason you are voting for the candidate.

Anger

There are always moments when you loose your cool...
When for atleast a split second, you want to shout...
make the other person realize how annoyed you are...

But is it really worth it ?
Afterall, some wise man has rightly said...

For every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness.
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Circle of Life

I am a believer of the ripple effect...
Everything we do, has an effect, and the ripple continues... and somewhere it moves a full circle, and what goes around, comes around....

But at the same time, if I am looking to start over, there is no better time than today... since the present will continuously keep becoming the past, and the baggage will only increase with time...

Like Oscar Wilde wisely said,
The only difference between the saint and the sinner
Is that every saint has a past, and every sinner has a future.

On the Way

While driving, besides following all traffic rules (yaah, that's part of the job !), we rely on the view in front and the rear view mirror to manoeuvre through all the traffic, to reach our destination... sometimes reaching the wrong place, and sometimes slightly late...

However, in trying to focus on the rear view for too much, we end up losing sight of what is coming our way... Likewise, not paying any attention to the past, might come and hit you at some point in time....

So it's important to be cognizant of both views, and have a clear destination :)

3 As

There are 3 things needed to achieve anything... Aspiration , Ability & Approach...
Most of us seem to concentrate on 2 out of these 3 requirements, leading to partial success, or even failure...

Though aspiration is important, it has to be supported by your ability, or atleast someone able enough should be supporting you. The same goes for approach...

There is no benchmark for these things I guess... and no tried and tested proportion either...

Year of Change

With the run up to the General Elections in India, it is amazing to see how policies (across states) are being pushed, and decisions are being made. It almost makes you wonder why they were sitting on all of it for the last 4.5 years when they were agreeable to the change in the first place.

Be it the Lokayukta Bill, or the Environmental clearances to 70 odd projects... The running government (please read ruining government) is making amends in their style, as if the box has suddenly been open, and all decisions will be made overnight.

The Aam Aadmi party is attempting to make the phenomenon in Delhi nation wide, and they just might succeed in some pockets...

Eitherways, this will be an year of change..

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.

~ J R R Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings

2013.. The Good, the Bad.. the Ugly...

The last week of December always leaves me with a nostalgic feeling...
Between looking back at the year gone by... and what the coming year might hold....

So  here's some of the stuff the year brought by...

Movie of the year: Jolly LLB & Table No 21
Both movies from lesser known directors.. and none of the cliched A league stars.... but both Jolly LLB & Table No 21 proved that if you've got the right story, and directors & actors to pull it through, the audience will shower praise... I think such cinema is the biggest boon multiplexes have given us.

Most hyped book of the year: The Oath of the Vayuputras
I understand the emergence of this cult of authors who have taken to writing plots intermingled with ancient history/mythology... I guess the trend was started by Dan Brown internationally, and successfully encashed by Amish Tripathi & Ashwin Sanghi amongst other....
But with this book, Amish stretched the concept (which sounded like a nice one in the first book - Meluha) a little too much.. I writer needs to reinvent... and can't be harping over the same in thing over and over again.

Teleseries of the year (India): 24
I accept that this isn't an original script... but one has to accept that Anil Kapoor has done a good job of Indianizing it.... also, he successfully avoided the trap which most tele-directors face and trying to extend the series for a few more episodes... He keep it crisp, chose a brilliant star cast.. and executed it with panache.

Will keep updating the list as and when I think of more items on this list.... afterall I only have this one week to rewind, after which its all about looking ahead :)

Delhi Elections

AAP has taken the Delhi political scene by storm.
Its an affirmation, not just that everyone is fed up of the corrupt ways of the stereotypical political leaders.. its also proof that when someone suggests a change, the common man (literally) has the courage to extend support and stand by the change...

No one thought Aam Aadmi Party would come so close to getting majority in the state elections, within one year of their formation...

I was recently watching an interview by Barkha Dutt, where she was questioning Kejriwal about the way forward.
There is no doubting the motive or honesty of Arvind Kejriwal, or the genuine intent in representing the issues faced by the common man. Now that they have achieved a milestone, they need to put in some serious thought into how they plan to achieve what they have so successfully started.... a movement by the people, for the people...

Its time to convert their idealism into more tangible, practical solutions... else what has risen so high, will die a terrible death....

PS: Before I forget, thank you Delhi for the record voting for these elections :)

Dil Aakhir Tu Kyu Rota Hai..

Seem to be in this mode of enjoying shayari..
What better way than this...

Jab jab dard ka baadal chhaya
Jab gham ka saya lehraaya
Jab aansoo palkon tak aaya
Jab yeh tanha dil ghabraaya
Hum ne dil ko yeh samjhaya
Dil aakhir tu kyun rota hai?
Duniya mein yun hi hota hai
Yeh jo gehre sannate hain
Waqt ne sabko hi baante hain
Thoda gham hai sabka qissa
Thodi dhoop hai sabka hissa
Aankh teri bekaar hi nam hai
Har pal ek naya mausam hai
Kyun tu aise pal khota hai
Dil aakhir tu kyun rota hai

Talaash

Recently read these lines...

Taqdeer badal jaegi apne aap he aey dost..
muskurana seekh le, wajah ki talaash na kar...

So true....

Vote.. Please !

In today's world, we seem to take our freedom, our democracy for granted...
Maybe it's because our generation hasn't fought for it.....  or maybe, we haven't seen the other side...

That's why, Polling day has just become another Holiday, when most of us just unwind, and don't bother to Cast the Vote.. the reason why we have been given a day off in the first place....

The other worrying part is the total ignorance on the part of the voter, as to what is happening all around us...
We are ever-ready to crib about the corrupt politicians, misbehaving cops and pathetic civic amenities, but won't open our ears to be aware about what is happening, or lift a finger to vote...

This combined ignorance and laziness will cost us our freedom someday.

Please Vote !!! It is one of the few chances we get as citizens to express our opinion !

Fresh Blood

Just whiling away time on the internet, I came across this website Friends2Support, which allows you to list yourself as a blood donor, and also look for one.

In today's world of PE's, it makes me feel nice, and reinforces my faith in new ventures... when entrepreneurs take the plunge and not just generate revenue, but manage to touch the needs of our society..

Stranger Help !

In the middle of hustling bustling traffic, my car broke down.
Not only did the cop not create a scene, he pushed it to a bylane, with the help of few strangers..
The surprises the day threw up didn't end there...
4 - 5 drivers waiting around helped restart the car when I  opened the bonnet to look for the possible fault... and finally an inquisitive student just came by, and literally plugged the problem...

Don't have enough words to thank them all... Didn't know any of them, but am sure to remember how they helped me yesterday !

So the next time I am on the road, and I find someone in need of some help, I'll stop for sure...
Because I am a firm believer....
What goes around, comes around..

Gender Equality ?

A man is free to use the streets as his toilet, and flick out their p**** not bothering who all they are showing it off to....
And the slightest sign of a cleavage is sufficient to say that women don't dress up properly... they provoke the "man"kind...

And then we talk about Gender Equality !!!!

Waiting
No street lights
Long queue of trucks

Balance

Few know what we deserve... and even fewer get what we deserve...
Because in our view, we always have a justification to give.. an answer worthy of the situation... It is for the other to decide... to react as per their senses...

Because there ought to be a greater cause... a bigger picture... a balance... that makes it all worthwhile...

Because sometimes... the truth isn't good enough... Sometimes people deserve more. Sometimes people deserve to have their faith rewarded....

Life

Life comes a full circle.. as much as we try and take shortcuts, detours...
What we give is what we get...
Needless to say, we came into the world holding someone's hand, learning from what we saw...
and we'll leave it, holding someone's hand, seeing the world, and wondering why they haven't learnt !

India Shining !?!

I am a patriot. I am proud of what our country has achieved so far, and think we have great things going for us. But if the biggest factor going for us is people... the biggest factor going against is also the people of the nation.

If we have the likes of Ratan Tata & Dr Anji Reddy, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw & Verghese Kurien, to name a few, who have showcased the ability of what an Indian is capable of... we also have a flip-side. Whether it is corruption, illiteracy, female infanticide or crime, India figures among the few countries on top.

We never seem to think twice before strutting with pride on the mention of Tata or Kurien at any international forum. Then why does it take us so long to accept that we are the ones responsible for the worst as well.
That WE need to take the initiative to move things towards the better...
That WE take it on ourselves to stop paying bribes, to educate everyone in our circle of influence, to be brave enough to identify crime and have the courage to cooperate with the police...

That WE stand up and take small steps...
It doesn't always take giant steps to take a leap of mankind...

Family

Family to me is not about blood, or just love...
Family is about time spent, moments shared, issues discussed....
Participating & contributing in each others lives...
Where you are allowed to make fun... but are never ridiculed...
Where you might not have the last word on everything, but every word said counts...

Power

Power attracts different reactions from different people...
Some people get attracted to people with power... some prefer avoiding such people....
and there are the minority whose reaction doesn't change with the power a person has...
There is a similar parallel for people with power...

Anyway, what is power ?

pow·er [pou-ernoun
1. ability to do or act; capability of doing or accomplishing something.
2. political or national strength: the balance of power in Europe.
3. great or marked ability to do or act; strength; might; force.
4. the possession of control or command over others; authority; ascendancy: power over men's minds.
5. political ascendancy or control in the government of a country, state, etc.: They attained power by overthrowing the legal government.

I believe it's all relative... Who might seem powerful to me, might be tiny for the Prime Minister... or is it just a state of mind... the more you let someone be in control, the more controlled you become..

You only have power over people so long as you don't take everything away from them. But when you've robbed a man of everything, he's no longer in your power - he's free again.
~ Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

A Smile.. Free.. Priceless

We walk around life, like we have the entire world's burden on our shoulders..
as if we are facing the biggest problems & the toughest challenges...
As a result, we talk too much, think a little lesser... and seldom smile...

Even if our day isn't going well,
it doesn't harm to make someone else's day more special :)

Elections 2014

With the General Elections due next year, one would have thought (or rather, hoped) that the political parties would be working in full swing, to prove their mettle, and show that they are worthy of making the next government.
Unfortunately, most of them are spending their time pointing fingers at each other.
Don't get me wrong, I am a strong believer of the fact that a strong democracy is only when we not only have a strong ruling party, but an equally strong opposition....

But the current scenario is such, where neither is ruling nor the opposition are worthy... as a result, a majority of their time is spent slinging mud at each other & proving themselves innocent & the opposition guilty...

The irony is that, even in the most tragic events, be it the Uttarakhand flood or the Poisionous Mid Day meal in Bihar, all the parties are scrambling in the race of finger pointing... No one has used the opportunity for finding a solution/relief in the crisis....

As voters, the onus is on us, to expect more from each of them.. to raise the bar, and hope that they rise too...

No Cricketomania

Living in a nation that loves cricket, and married in a household where everyone breathes cricket, I would've thought (or atleast hoped) that I'd come to love the game too.

Instead, it has brought me to this ludicrous idea.

What if our the sport of cricket was banned in India for an year....
I know it is almost an impossible occurrence, but just humour me for a while...

Besides bringing a smile on most teachers faces, who keep fuming over their class watching cricket matches and not studying, it might achieve much more....

  • It will definitely bring down the advertising cost on all channels at prime-time (since cricket has also become an almost daily source of prime-time entertainment).
  • Other sports (which might provide similar excitement in smaller games), will finally see the light of the day or rather, will finally get a spot for telecast.
  • With all the spot fixing and other controversies surrounding cricket, am hoping the black money in circulation through the year will reduce. Games like tennis & hockey are probably not popular enough to be fixed. Else, why would Britain have to wait for 76 yrs for a Wimbledon win. If this was the case for a cricket tournament in India, I am almost 100% sure, someone would've arranged it to happen.
  • Maybe other modes of entertainment will be created. Just the reality shows were created to beat the daily saas-bahu serials, some innovation could come out of this situation too.
  • The more we see on the screen, the more it influences us. So maybe we'll have more of gully football, badminton & tennis. Afterall, these games can also be played with just a ball & a bat.. oops, racket !

India - Engineering the "Engineers"

When we are 16, most of us are wondering what we want to do with our life (i mean careers here)... Some of us find our calling by interest, some by force, and some just manage to dabble through different things and get there....

However, in India, one of the most "chosen" careers is that of an Engineer. Its almost a national hysteria - an admission in a good Engineering college. This phenomena has had a ripple effect..
The first being that now there a huge number of Engineering colleges (with little or no infrastructure whatsoever) which are full of students trying to soak in the practical aspects of science and technology... none of them realizing that they'll soon become a part of this ocean.. of Engineering graduates (i refuse to refer to the likes of us as Engineers!!! )...
The second is the total ignorance towards the other lesser known career options, be it psychology, journalism, law, photography, medicine, architecture, design and the many others...

A direct result of this can be seen in today's B schools, where 80% of the class comprises of Engineers.
Please note, that you won't find a law student, a doctor or an NID graduate sitting in those classes... turning specialists into generalists....
Don't get me wrong, even I am belong to the league of B Tech - MBA... and am a strong advocate of the thought that even the most Purposeless thing/person has its own Purpose in the larger scheme of things :)

I am just trying to find the hidden secret behind the success... or is it ?

Love Story

I've read a few books so far....
Some books many times, and many books just about once....
But the one book I can read as many times I lay hands on it is Love Story, by Eric Segal.

So as I read the book again (once more !!!), here's what I like the most, besides the entire book that is...

"When our two souls stand up erect and strong, face to face, silent,
drawing nigh and nigher 'til the lengthening wings break into fire at either curved point;
What bitter wrong can the Earth do to us that we should not long be here contented?
Think.
In mounting higher, the angels would press on us,
and aspire to drop some golden orb of perfect song into our deep dear silence.
Let us stay rather on Earth, Beloved,
where the unfit contrarious moods of men recoil away
and isolate pure spirits and permit a place to stand and love
in for a day with darkness and death hour rounding it."

Confusion

The more I think about it, the more I am confused...
To think that the past doesn't have any bearing on us from the moment it has gone by is foolishness....
And to think that the future is what we need to invest for/in is not prudent either...

So how do I balance myself in "that" precarious position..
not whiling away the moment...
yet not undermining the importance of the past or the future...

Think before you Speak

Have you ever felt that you talk too much... and sometimes, words just slip out..
that you've said things that could have been avoided, even though what you said was true...

Roko Mat

What I miss about my childhood the most (of course I miss the idea of not having to assume any responsibilities... duh..) is the freedom to think.

Not like I've been chained to an outlook, or that an attitude has stuck to me..
But the supposed logic, and practicality that we tend to attain with age (is that what is erroneously called wisdom ?!?), is what is responsible for our lack of ingenuity... the lack of thinking out of the box....

We have regimented our outlook and thought process with dos & don't, the right & the wrong, the reality & the dream...

And somewhere, maybe unknowingly, we inculcate the same in our children...
So when they ask why they can't fly, all we say is that they'll fall down on the ground... without realizing that we are actually clipping their wings...

Temptation

I am a strong believer that the more you try and chase something, the more it evades you...
and the more you avoid something, the more it chases you....

Despite believing in this, I tend to try and chase material things...
Promotions, Increments, Praises, Appraisal....
Maybe because it is "that" time of the year.... maybe it is the to be recognized, for a change for what I am responsible for...

But as always, the more I harp about it, the more it moves away... needless to say it really messes with the head and spoils the mood.

“I can resist everything except temptation.”

Change the Unchanged

Our views about life, relationships & people keep changing....

When we start out any relationship, we resolve that we'll accept everyone as they are.....
But slowly, we get the itch to change the person....not necessarily to our liking, but towards our ideals.....

And then guilt follows, when the realization strikes, that what we had resolved to love, without limits, unchanged, is what we are trying to change, knowingly..... and questioning them all the way.....

Now I know what Oscar Wilde meant when he said....
"Women are meant to be loved, not to be understood."

Race through Life

We drive the car in great speed... competing with others on the road... gathering dust, and hopefully just a few scratches here and there... without bothering about what we have done to others... not caring what we leave behind...

But that's not the way I'd like to live life...
After all, there IS only one life :)

Moments & Milestones

Most of us wait for occasions to celebrate... birthdays... anniversaries ... exam results (though that was more a cause of concern for me ;))...
I came from an even more extreme school of thought, where I thought that no day, and everyday is the same.. so why celebrate !

Now, we look for a reason to celebrate.. a Indian team victory... a lost purse found.... anything & everything qualifies as a reason to celebrate..
Maybe I am not as cynical anymore... either-ways, it feels good :)

We don't always need a Milestone to celebrate... even the little Moments in life count....

Atheist v/s Theist

A friend recently shared these quotes with me. Made a lot of sense.

“An Atheist who refuses to enter a temple because he doesn’t believe in God actually does so because he believes there is God inside Temple.”

“A Theist who prays to God, actually has no faith in God because he prays for God to do things his way, instead of trusting God’s wisdom and not praying at all.”

Eat Together... Stay Together

We spend a majority of our day at work... come home tired.. and eventually fall asleep...
In today's materialistic world, the few precious moments one can spend with their family is at the breakfast/dinner table...

You might think that this is an old fashioned thought.. I mean who eats at the dining table nowadays. Isn't it better utilization of time to watch TV side-by-side..
The dining table is the only opportunity for the family to sit together and talk, mostly the mundane activities of the day, and effectively stay in touch with each other.

We might be living under the same roof, but may not have a clue about the other persons life.
And so.... I strongly believe that a Family which eats together, stays together.

Which is why the Coca Cola campaign, Khanna to hai bahaana makes good sense to me :)

Rangde

We all find different ways to pay back to the society (and by that, I am not referring to Income Tax :))

Some like cleaning the neighbourhood.. some of us work for NGOs... the rest of us just ease our conscience by donating to a cause...

What If

We are all like inspectors... inspecting our own lives.. trying to figure out what it has doled out to us... and more often than not, trying to find out what we've missed...

And then the spiral starts... about the What If..

What if I worked somewhere else.. spoke differently... lived somewhere else...
sometimes the what ifs spiral down to even more trivial issues... which eventually leads to cribbing about life..

What we often miss is.. what if we didn't have what we already do... would we even have the luxury of sitting and indulging in the what ifs...

Year after Year

It suddenly hit me that the year is about to come to an end...
This time of the year is normally when I sit down to think what have been the high points and low points of the year....
I don't exactly do this try accounting for the year that has, as usual, zoomed by...
I do this because somewhere, it makes me identify, more clearly the people/things that count to me the most... moments that have clearly left a mark, and are now a part of me...

Almost every year, most of the high points are contributed by my family... close friends... whom we often take for granted the most..
This year has also left a lot to seek... a healthier life for everyone... take a break from work more often... and some growth in work & family...

But in the middle of all this.. some highs & some lows... I feel that the year went by fine...
And hope that we have even better ones ahead of us...

Plan

All of us like to plan ahead...
some to the closest instant, so for the distant future...

As humans, i guess we feel assured of a certain lifespan.. so we like to control, to the extent possible, what comes our way...

What we don't anticipate, is that it can all come tumbling down, with that instant of carelessness, or the sudden slamming of the brakes....
And then, it dawns... Thank God I am alive...

Maybe that helps respect the life we are living... every moment, every thought...

Huff.. Puff... till I Blow the House Down !!!

The confidence of being in control...
The satisfaction of being right...
The joy of reiteration...
The squabble that follows...
The pleasure of just kissing and making up...

M not sure going through the rigmarole was worth it...
Considering there were easier ways of achieving the same end result...

Not like I drove home a point either ;))

Age

I ran through life, not bothering about people who'd have joined me...
Now, as I barely manage to walk, I am all alone...

Prejudice

We are all entitled to views.. perspectives.. about things... people...
But what happens when these views slowly turn into prejudices..
without realizing, we begin judging, which the need of a judgement...

It could be based on anything... gender... religion... faith... language... colour... just about anything... even something as trivial as how someone dresses...

How do we control our thought...And not see everything through tinted glasses...
It becomes so difficult to see the truth, to get past these thoughts & our ego, to see that we are wrong.. and someone else is right...

Memories

Memories are vicious things (and I don't necessarily mean in it in the negative sense)...
They are self absorbing.. make you forget reality... almost like a quagmire...

Also, they are like the items kept in a Cupboard...
If the cupboard stays locked up for too long, the minute you open it, a million thoughts keep flowing out... and we are just left recollecting old thoughts and worries...

If we kept opening the cupboard once in a while, it would be well ventilated. Also, it would be easier to weed out and forget old worries, and make space for new memories. Needless to say there won't be a flurry of clothes tumbling down..
Afterall, our head has only that much space for memories, where we pack them all :)

...

Achievement of your happiness is the only moral purpose of your life, and that happiness, not pain or mindless self-indulgence, is the proof of your moral integrity, since it is the proof and the result of your loyalty to the achievement of your values.

Horn ? Please !

If you are living in Delhi (or maybe any part of this country) and drive yourself to work... what do you to think is the single most persistent sound that you can hear (ofcourse, besides the non stop blabbering of your head !)... the Horn !!

The ever so irritating sound, that just doesn't go as long as you are on the road... though the purpose of a horn is to alert people on the road if they are on the way (yes, yes.. that thing has a purpose)... it seems to be an indicator of our impatience, a bike howling its way on the road, or just mindless show off...

After much thought, I feel that the best way to curb the unnecessary usage is by linking the horn with the usage of fuel... so everytime you go for your horn, you will also be loosing a drop of petrol.... Once the damn thing is not free to blow away, we will all be more thoughtful and mindful as to when to use it...

And hopefully, in the future, we'll have a more peaceful drive to work and back home... sigh !!!!

Dreams

All of us dream when we sleep...
Some dream about the days gone by, and the others navigate through time around the corner..
Of wishes fulfilled, and the ones left to accomplish..
Of love & life, hope & pain...

But what if I told you that I wanted to break free from dreams..
That I didn't want to contemplate - neither the past nor the future...
Would should I do ?

Life - Time

Found this in a book I just finished reading... says it all...
"In the infinity of time, what is the span of human existence..."

Life

No moment is ordinary... each is unique and non-replacable...

Infact, every moment we are spending cribbing, feeling disappointed, fighting over banal issues... we are wasting time on hand..

Life is like a clock moving backwards...
We rarely know when our time will be up...
Only the moments created are an infinite....

Balance ?!?

Waltzing through the day,
I laughed at my life...

I lie down at night,
And the tears hit me...

Please Listen

What do you do when people are being very stubborn...
So stubborn that they've stopped seeing anyone's perspective other than their own...

When they try and convince you in every possible way that they are looking after your welfare.. but they don't see that they are doing as much harm...

All you can do is try and be calm.. and wait for them to hear your plea...
Not just hear, but listen to them... and understand.. what exactly we are saying !!!

Freedom

What happens when you suddenly break free...
The realization that you were caged so far suddenly dawns upon you...

As though... I was so used being in the cage, that I didn't know of a world beyond it... That the walls were where it all ended...

But the most painful is when there is a creak in the wall, and you can see what you are missing out on...

A Daily Ritual

All of us have small little rituals, that comfortably become a part of our daily lives... And we don't even notice them till they stop... be it a good night kiss, or a meal together..

Actually, I always used to wonder during my childhood why my mother used to try her best that all of us eat dinner together at the dinner table... yes.. dinner table !!!
It all sounds like an alien concept, with tight schedules and the television to give us company..

But it all makes sense to me now... through our entire busy day,we are always surrounded by different objects/people... Dinner seems to be the only time when the entire family has the opportunity to sit together.. and talk... discuss the day's events... and other trivial things....

As unimportant and trivial as it may sound, I have come to believe that a family that eats together, stays together !!!
